What Is Play Money?

A high-level overview of the platform for new users

Play Money is an angel investment platform that makes it easy for you to invest in startups alongside experienced investors.

How It Works

Play Money connects you with curated startup investment opportunities. Each deal on the platform represents a chance to invest in a company through a structure called an SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle). An SPV pools money from multiple investors into a single legal entity that makes the investment on everyone's behalf.

Browse deals

Explore investment opportunities from vetted startups across categories like climate tech, AI, health, fintech, and more.

Invest

Choose a deal, select how much you want to invest, and confirm your commitment in just a few clicks.

Fund

Send your money via bank transfer (ACH), wire, or through your IRA/DAF custodian.

Track

Follow your investment's progress from commitment through funding in your portfolio.

The platform handles the legal setup, payment processing, and ongoing administration so you can focus on choosing the companies you believe in.

Who Is It For?

Play Money is designed for accredited investors who want to participate in angel investing — whether you are just starting out or have years of experience.

What Makes It Different?

What You Can Do

Common Questions

Do I need to be an accredited investor? Yes. Securities regulations require that investors in private startup deals meet certain income or net worth thresholds. The platform will guide you through confirming your accreditation status as part of the investment process.

Is there a cost to join? Creating an account and browsing deals is free. Fees only apply when you make an investment. See Understanding Fees for details.

How is my money protected? Each investment is made through a separate SPV, which is a distinct legal entity. Your investment is held within that structure. Play Money uses bank-grade security for payments and data protection.

Can I invest with my business entity or retirement account? Yes. Play Money supports investing as an individual, through an LLC, corporation, partnership, trust, IRA, or donor-advised fund (DAF). See Investment Profiles to learn more.
