Communities
What communities are and how to participate
Communities on Play Money are groups of investors who share interests, networks, or investment goals.
What Is a Community?
A community on Play Money is a group of investors organized around a shared network, organization, or investment interest. Communities might represent:
Angel groups & syndicates
Investor groups that pool knowledge and co-invest together.
Alumni networks
University and educational communities with shared backgrounds.
Accelerator communities
Communities like YCombinator or Techstars alumni and supporters.
Professional networks
Industry groups and professional investment communities.
Each community can have its own deals, members, and investment activity. Communities create a sense of belonging and help you discover deals relevant to your network.
How to Discover Communities
Communities are typically discovered in one of a few ways:
- Through a signup link — Many investors join through a community-specific signup link. You are automatically connected to that community
- On deal pages — Deals associated with a community show the community badge
- Through search — Use the platform's search feature to find communities by name
What You Will See on a Community Page
Each community has its own detail page that includes:
- Header — Cover image, logo, name, website, and location
- Stats — Number of members, number of deals, and total amount invested by community members
- About section — Description, mission, and what the community offers
- Deals — A grid of deals associated with the community
Joining a Community
The most common way to join a community is through a community signup link. When someone from the community shares their link with you, signing up automatically makes you a member.
Some communities are connected to specific deals — if you are granted access to a deal through a community, you become connected to that community as well.
