Opening Messages

Use Messages in the main navigation to see your conversations, or open someone's profile and tap Message when it is available.

On web, you can also start a conversation from a profile without leaving the page. Mobile messaging is coming later; today the full Messages experience is on web.

Who you can message

You can start a conversation when at least one of these is true:

• You follow each other
• You both funded the same deal
• One of you is a founder on a deal the other funded

If you signed up through someone's referral link, you automatically follow each other, so you can message right away. See Referral Program.

Once a thread exists, you can keep messaging even if you unfollow later. If someone blocks you (or you block them), new messages stop.

In a conversation

• Send plain text replies from the composer
• Mute a conversation if you want to stop alerts for that thread without leaving it
• Open the other person's profile from the thread header when their account is still active

Emails about new messages

If you have Messages email on, you may get an email that someone messaged you. It shows who wrote and links into the conversation. It never includes the message text. If you open the thread quickly, you may not get the email at all.

Preferences

Control Messages alerts under your notification preferences: in-app unread badge, email, and push (push will matter once mobile messaging ships).

Common Questions

Why is Message grayed out or missing on a profile? You are not connected in a way that allows messaging yet. Follow each other, or invest in a deal you share.

Where did my unread count go? Unread for messages lives on Messages, not on the notification bell.

Can I see group chats? No. Conversations are one-to-one.
