Importing Outside Investments
Upload spreadsheets, K-1s, and agreements to add outside positions to your portfolio
Import pulls positions out of the paperwork you already have. You review the list, then they land on your portfolio. This is a Play Money Pro feature.
Starting an Import
From Portfolio, click Import. You can also start from Tax Center when you Upload K-1.
If you are not on Pro yet, you will see the upgrade flow first.
What You Can Upload
- Tax docs (K-1s and related filings)
- Legal docs (subscription agreements and similar)
- Spreadsheets (CSV or Excel exports from other platforms)
- Screenshots and images of holdings
How the Wizard Works
Upload
Add one or more files. You can leave and come back mid-import.
Extract
Play Money reads the files and groups proposed positions by company.
Review
Check each card. Approve what looks right, edit details, reject bad rows, and merge duplicates that are really the same company.
Commit
Approved positions become outside investments on your portfolio.
Original files stay in Documents. K-1s and legal docs also file into the right tax year or investment record when you assign them during review.
After You Import
- Positions appear on Portfolio with a Reported source
- Open any row to update values, mark exits, or manage documents on the outside position page
- Tax Center picks up imported K-1 coverage for the year
- Insights can include the new positions once you are on Pro blended scope
Common Questions
Will import create duplicates? The review step tries to match existing outside positions and Play Money deals for the same company. Check merge suggestions before you commit.
Can I import without Pro? Import requires Play Money Pro. Your Play Money investments do not need it.
Where did my upload go? Open Documents → Import history for working files, or Tax files / Investment records when a document was filed against a year or position.
