How Payments Work

An overview of the payment process for your investments

After you confirm an investment, your payment is processed automatically (for ACH) or manually (for wire transfers). Here is what to expect.

Payment Methods

How Each Method Works

When you invest with a linked bank account, the platform automatically initiates an ACH transfer to pull funds from your account. You do not need to do anything — the payment is handled for you. ACH is the most common and convenient payment method.

For full details, see ACH Transfers.

Payment Timing

MethodHow it startsTypical processing time
ACH (Bank Transfer)Automatically, after you confirm1 to 3 business days
Wire TransferWhen you send the wire from your bankSame day to 2 business days
External (IRA/DAF)When your custodian initiates the transferVaries by custodian

These are typical timelines. Actual processing time can vary depending on your bank, the time of day, and whether the transfer is initiated on a business day.

Viewing Your Payment Status

You can check the status of your payment at any time from your investment detail page. Navigate to your portfolio, click on the investment, and look at the Payment Summary section. It shows:

  • Committed — The total amount you committed to invest
  • Collected — How much has been received so far
  • Outstanding — Any remaining balance
  • Payment history — A list of individual payment transactions with their status and date

Common Questions

When is my money taken? For ACH, the transfer is initiated shortly after you confirm. For wire, it happens when you send it from your bank. For external funding, it depends on when your custodian processes the transfer.

Can I use a credit card? No. Investments can only be funded via ACH bank transfer, wire transfer, or external funding from a custodian.

What currency do you accept? Investments are denominated and processed in U.S. dollars (USD).

What if my payment fails? If an ACH payment fails, the platform will attempt an automatic retry. You will be notified by email. See Payment Issues for more details.

Can I pay for multiple investments with one wire? No. Each investment requires its own payment with its own reference number to ensure correct matching.
