Why identity verification is required and how to complete it

Before you can invest, we need to verify your identity. This is a legal requirement that protects you and other investors.

Why Is Verification Required?

Securities regulations require platforms like Play Money to verify the identity of every investor before they can participate in private investments. This process — commonly known as KYC (Know Your Customer) — is designed to prevent fraud, money laundering, and other financial crimes. It protects you, other investors, and the companies you invest in.

You only need to complete identity verification once. After you are verified, you can invest in as many deals as you like without repeating the process.

How to Complete Verification

Identity verification happens during your first investment flow, or you can start it from your account settings. The process has six steps:

Personal information

Enter your legal first name, last name, and date of birth.

Country of residence

Select the country where you currently live.

Tax status

Provide information about your tax residency and filing status.

Address

Enter your residential address. State and region names are automatically standardized (for example, "California" becomes "CA") to ensure accuracy.

Identification

Provide your Social Security Number (SSN), Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), or passport number.

Review and submit

Review all the information you entered and submit for verification.

After submitting, your verification runs in the background. In most cases, it is approved within minutes.

Verification Statuses

Expired

Your verification has expired and needs to be submitted again. This can occur if the verification was left in a pending state for an extended period. Simply go through the verification steps again to resubmit.

How Long Does It Take?

Most verifications are completed within a few minutes. In some cases, manual review may be required, which can take one to three business days. You will be notified by email when your verification status changes.

While your verification is being processed, your investment will show a "Verification In Progress" status. You do not need to wait for verification to complete before browsing or committing to other deals.

Common Questions

Is my information secure? Yes. Your personal information is encrypted and stored securely. Play Money uses industry-standard security practices and only shares your information with regulated verification providers as required by law.

What documents do I need? For most U.S. investors, you only need your Social Security Number. If you are a non-U.S. investor, you may need your passport number or other identification. The verification form will guide you through exactly what is needed.

Can I complete verification from outside the United States? Yes. Play Money supports investors from multiple countries. The verification form will adapt based on your country of residence.

I submitted my verification but my investment still shows "Verification Required." What should I do? Verification processing can take a few minutes. Refresh the page after a short wait. If the status does not change within a business day, contact our support team.
